Dad, Donna and I St. Paticks day

Start and End Each Day with Gratitude

I don’t want to go; I want to stay home and enJoy this time after Mason’s graduation. I don’t want to go to the airport, it is depressing, my favorite restaurants are not open either in Houston or in Jacksonville. (one might wonder why I have favorite restaurants in airports!) I have things to do at home.

After the past week of complaining and whining, I realized that I had not been practicing one of the most critical disciplines in my life as a Christian, to start and end my day with a few words of Gratitude.

Did you notice the entire first paragraph is all about how the situation affected me, not the essential reason that I needed to make an unplanned trip to Florida? First, I am so grateful for my Dad’s full-time caregiver, the love and devotion she has for him, and her spunk. She is a joy to be around, and I love spending time with her. Second, I am thankful for the support I have both at home and also work to be able to drop everything and in 24 hours be on a plane. Third, I am thankful for the resources that allow me to be able to do whatever is necessary to take care of Dad.

Live with Joy, Prayer, and Thankfulness

16 Rejoice  always!

17 Pray constantly.

18 Give thanks in everything,

for this is God’s will  for you in Christ Jesus.

Paul is writing to the church at Thessalonica, and this is a beautiful reminder today. We need to live our lives, Joyfully, with constant prayer, and to be thankful for all we have. Thankful for the good and bad, Thankful for the less than ideal circumstances, Thankful for our Lives, and the journey that God had for each of us! Let’s start today to live with Joy, Prayer, and Thankfulness.

  1. Thank you! We all need support and words of encouragement even as we are giving them to others. The question is not “what do I do?” But rather “who do I want to be?
I could never express to you the appreciation and love I have for you.
    Blessings.
