James – verse by verse

James 1 (HCSB)

James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ:

To the 12 tribes in the Dispersion.[a]

Greetings.

The book of James is thought to be authored by Jesus’s brother James, who did not follow Christ during his earthly ministry. A post-resurrection appearance by Jesus convinced James, Jesus was The Messiah. We don’t have that luxury. We have to take steps now to follow Christ and be a servant. Especially during times of uncertainty, like we are in now, as believers, we should stand apart and love on all people. Just as the 12 tribes (Jewish Christians) were dispersed throughout the region. We too are dispersed right now in a sense, as we are not able to go to our churches and gather together. Practice social distancing, but not Jesus distancing. More than any other time in our history, as Christ-followers, we need to actively be an example to the world, it starts in our homes and communities. What is one thing you can do today, to show Christ’s love?
