I HATE the word, Busy!

I hate the word busy, which is exactly what my life is… I try to use other words when people ask me how I am, like, “we have a full life”.  Since we are all busy, I looked up the definition of busy:

  • Engaged in action / being in use
  • Full of activity
  • Foolishly or intrusively active
  • Full of distracting detail

Some of those definitions are positive, “full of activity”. I think that is how I would describe my life, but some are also negative, “foolishly or intrusively active”.

I am a wife of 36 years, more good years than bad now!  I am a mother to 4 adult children, a son-in-love and a daughter-in-love, one son’s significant other, a daughter that lives in NYC (far away from home!)  and our youngest child is a SR in high school.

I have a full-time job with business travel, working on a side gig, the primary point of contact for my dad who lives 1000 away, diagnosed with dementia, who has a full time live in caregiver and we still operate his seasonal tax business, which I travel to see him about every 6-8 weeks!  I am a weekly Ladies bible study’s teacher (Lunchbox) for the past 15 years.   An Author and I am working on a Speaking ministry that I feel I was called to many years ago.

So, with all of those things on my plate, YES, I am busy, I say no to things, I miss things! I don’t get back to you as quickly as either of us would like.

However, one of the things that I have realized in the last few months is that I needed to be more intentional.  Specifically, about building & maintaining the relationships with our adult children and their significant others.  Time passes so quickly and there are so many demands on our time that days can go by without a touch.

We have a saying in our home, that we heard in a sermon.   “Everyone needs a touch from The Shepherd”.  And we do – we all need the touch.  Just as I need to be intentional with my adult children, we need to be intentional with our relationship with Christ.  It doesn’t just happen, it takes intentionality to maintain.  What are you doing Today to build your relationship with Christ? WE don’t want days to go by without a touch!

Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.
