Today is my birthday! And I haven’t really wanted to celebrate. It is a strange time to celebrate anything. I usually love to have a celebration for ALL of the little things that happen, because I believe we ought to be grateful and celebrate all things, giving glory to God.
So, I looked up birthday celebration in my reference books – and found the greek word:
In the Old Testament, there are recorded observances of birth-days, specifically in Job. However, there are not any records in scripture of the celebration of birth-days among the Jews. The only time this word is used in scripture is describing Herod’s birthday celebration in Matthew 14:6:
6 But when Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them and pleased Herod. 7 So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 And prompted by her mother, she answered, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter!” 9 Although the king regretted it, he commanded that it be granted because of his oaths and his guests. 10 So he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison.
OK, Not the type of birthday celebration that I want to have! But I do want to celebrate today. I want to celebrate this crazy journey that the Lord has me on right now. I am so very thankful to my Creator for not giving up on me all of the times I said no (and for the times to come that I will say no!), all the times, I walked the other way and was not obedient to the path the Lord wanted me to take. I am incredibly thankful to be at the Beach writing today, and I will celebrate this time! Thank you, Lord, for this journey, may I be used by you today and the rest of the days that you have ordained for me.
