Dt 4:29-31: But from there, you will search for the Lord your God, and you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart and all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, you will return to the Lord your God in later days and obey Him. 31 He will not leave you, destroy you, or forget the covenant with your fathers that He swore to them by oath, because the Lord your God is a compassionate God.
These verses were written as Moses was leading the Israelites through the wilderness. The verses right before are a warning to them about living corruptly and the consequences of making idols and doing what is evil in the sight of The Lord. We have seen both plays out in recent days. First, we had made idols of our security, jobs, way of life, and COVID came around and took most of that away. Then, we have seen evil play out in many forms over the past days.
But from there, you will search for The Lord your God
Verse 29 starts with a But from there. We have a choice of how to react to everything that is going on in our country. We are to earnestly SEEK The Lord and follow His guidance. How?
- Be in the Word! Lookup scripture that comforts you look up scripture with a call to action that you can pray through and over the situation.
- Cry out to The Lord – this situation grieves Him, be earnest in your cry.
- Examine your heart for ways you need to change.
Dear Lord, Help! Heal our land! We know what is going on right now, grieves your heart. Lord, we ask for healing and understanding and reconciliation. Show each of us how we can be a part of the solution. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
