22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does.
Verse 22 is a call to action! Our churches, classrooms, workplaces, etc all filled with people that are hearing information, but not absorbing it and not taking any action with what they are learning. How often do we sit in a service, leave and not remember any of the points? How often do we read a book and not remember what it was about? As a Christian, we are called to be Doers, be active in our faith. Our Christian lives should be a reflection of what we are learning through our study of the word.
Paul writes in Romans 2:13 “For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be declared righteous.”
What can you do today to put into practice being a “doer” of the word?
