I have been up for a while this morning, as our 80-pound german shepherd is deathly afraid of storms. Yesterday, he spent most of the day under my feet. When the lightning and thunder begins, he starts panting and shaking and is so scared he doesn’t know where to go. He wants to be touched, but he doesn’t want to be able to see the lightning. We have yet to find a safe place in our house that he will ride it out. As I am comforting Goliath, I thought about where I can go when I scared. And I have a savior that always has His arms open wide.
It is Memorial Day, and I have the freedom to live as I choose because of the military men and women that gave their lives for freedom in this country. For that, I am genuinely thankful. I am also grateful for the families that also sacrificed for our freedom. Today, we honor and remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
But, I am also free because I follow Christ:
John 8:32, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 14:6, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Knowing, not just head knowledge, but heart knowledge and believing that Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose on the third day gives us freedom. We are free from the chains of this world that bind us into thinking that we have to perform or earn the gift of salvation. It is a free gift, and you just have to unwrap it.
Dear Lord, first I want to pray for the families that lost a family member because they gave their lives fighting for our freedom, give them peace today. Lord, I thank you for your sacrifice of Jesus. I pray for those that don’t know the saving grace of Jesus and that they would come to know him. In Jesus name, Amen
